It's official. We are pet owners again. But this time it's just a little hermit crab that lives in a cage. We got it for Bjorn the other day and he is one happy boy. He carried it out of the pet store in it's little container and just watched it the whole way home. The first day, he just watched it in it's cage. But ever since the second day, he figured out how to get the lid off the cage, and so he opens it and picks it up whenever he wants. He carries it all around the house and outside to show all the neighbors. He is so proud. I kept wondering if it would bite and today we learned the hard way that it does. Bjorn brought it outside and wanted to show his little friend Kaden. We think Kaden thought it was a ball and so he grabbed it. All the sudden we heard Kaden start to cry and the crab was hanging on his finger. He pulled it off and it took a chunk of skin right off his little finger. We felt so bad! Dang Crab!! I've been a little afraid of it ever since we got it... now I'm even more afraid. But Bjorn isn't. So I have to pretend like I'm not. Also, if you can't tell from the picture, Bjorn has recently started dressing himself:) He usually comes out of his room with backwards underwear (YES, he's potty trained), backwards pants and shirt, inside out socks, and he's just as happy with himself as could be, so why ruin that.

Fun! My 11 year old wants a hermit crab. He has learned everything he needs to know about them and is just waiting for his gold fish to die so he can repurpose his aquarium into a home for a crab. Boys are so funny about little creatures. It is so fun to watch them discover them. Spencer was our animal lover and has had many-a-pet. We bought him a lizard when he was about five and he carried it around, showed it to the neighbors, played with it like it was a puppy and it was dead by the end of the first day.
Oh, sad little story. I have always wondered if crabs will bite you. I see a lot of little crabs around our apartment and on the beach and they are kind of quick. The ones I see cruise, but they run sideways. Its kind of funny and awkward looking.
Aww...hermit crabs...they remind me of my honeymoon. Ty always had them growing up, cause he'd get them off the beach whenever they visited his grandma in S. Carolina, and I always wonder why he wanted them and what he did with them (I think probably just waited for them to die - what else are they good for)? Kind of a strange little critter. Anyway that's fun that Bjorn is so excited! AND way exciting that he's potty trained! How'd you finally end up doing it? I need all the detes so I can be prepared for when Sy is ready! Yeah, it's always fun when kids are old enough to dress themselves. Saylor spent two straight years in a hideous purple Hawaiian dress and a NEON green shortall (of course she chose the two things I hated the most to be obsessed with). Thankfully I think most people understand (at least if they've ever had kids), and just think it's funny and don't attribute it to the mom being muy loco.
That is so dang cute. sad, but cute. Bjorn is darling also and I am thinking he does a pretty good job at dressing himself.
p.s. great job on the new business cant wait to see them.
